Sunburnt Child of the Desert Blue Sarkith

Drenched in a basecoat of simple cornflower blue, the merry colour does nothing really to disguise the fact that this youngling is but a slip of a dragon. The rounded edges of his wedge shaped head, though elegant in their own way, are the first indication that this one was not built to reflect exact porportions. As if to highlight the raised areas of muzzle, head knobs and neck, a dusting of ruddy violet seems to shine in it's dark way. Almost the way a sunburn might glow upon the skin. Sliding down from the head, his sleek and slender neck flows down in a continuation of the cornflower blue, slowly transitioning into a showing of randomly spangled streaks of cyan and black-blue silt along his shoulders. These touches of cyan sand and black-blue silt wrap up and over the small, well shaped wings, blending into the background and foreground colours in little patterns like distant constellations. Slightly larger than normal haunches are well toned and keep the flow of his body going as the hide shifts back towards the original cornflower blue. One might think that this expanded scale might continue when one considered the thickness of the tail at it's base. Until one realized the abruptness with which the spade had been set, this blue's sunburnt and freckled tail only being around a third of what it's length aught to be.

Egg Name and Description

Black Sands like Black Waters Egg
Black sands spill over this egg, everywhere you can see looking as granulated as the dunes. To the tough, this egg is as smooth as the others, but is quite deceiving to the eye. Shimmering silt shines from the surface of the egg, glittering from every angle. Irrigation canals sweep in a perfect spiral from a mountain at the tip to black sanded top of this egg, the black waters never wavering from their black banks. As black as this egg is, you can never loose sight of those glittered, shimmering bits of light on the surface of this egg.

Hatching Message

Black Sands Like Black Waters Egg shifts in the sands a little, making its own place in it's corner of the sands. In fact, with its black sandy surface, it makes itself right at home there, just black silt against the golden sands around it.

Black Sands like Black Waters Egg vibrates again, kicking up dust and shell fragments as once again shifts and settles then shifts again. Shimmers of dark liquid peek at the edges of lightning streaked lines that course over the surface, but the tension holds. For the moment.

Black Sands Like Black Waters Egg finally decides it's time for it to come into this great, if overly bright world. It pulses to an unheard rhythm, pushing the cracked edges of the shell further and further apart, like sand falling away from itself, water sliding over black silt. Right at the climax of this silent music, everything pauses dramatically waiting for just the right beat to break the surface tension. The bursting of this egg sends the little one inside forth, riding a dark tide into this strange, dry and overly brilliant new world. Somehow he manages to right himself, though still suffering a little vertigo admittedly. From nose tip to tail tip Sunburnt Child of the Desert Blue Hatchling shakes himself free of the last vestiges of the other world - the dark egg world. Perhaps he aught to find his guide?

Impression Message

With a disconcerting rapidness, darkness descends upon you from within your own mind. Miniscule flashes of shimmering gold and sparkles of prismatic silver follow, setting a night-time canvas over your conciousness. As the inward night falls an unheard, yet somehow oddly familiar tune wafts in the background. The notes are a fully realized score, though the instruments in the harmonies cannot be so easily distinguished. Like the hot summer air, it nearly sizzles around you for a moment. Then settles back down, leaving only a series of baritone notes, a singluar voice humming through your mind. Its dizzying, hypnotic and then the tones become words, « Will you not sing with me, Farris? Your heart already knows the tune, I learned it from you. I am your Sarkith. We are one.» With a sudden disharmonious note, in more ways than one, his stomach complains audibly, «Perhaps you can sing *to* me, while I eat?»

Personality: Sarkith is everything you wanted, and more we hope. He's confident, outgoing, determined and brave. Very brave, and very determined. I based this little bit of him off of the half-god Herakles, or as most people know him, Hercules. Herakles was the deity of courage and ingenuity. Well, your Sarkith has this in spades. Your little blue is small, but mighty. Comparable to when Herakles took on his First Labor, killing the Nemean Lion and bringing back his hide. During the course of this task, Herakles found all his weapons ineffective against the lion and bravely he tackled the lion and killed it with his bare hands, then had to skin the beat with its own claws because mortal weapons would not work against the lion. So like Herakles, Sarkith is endowed with a bundle of bravery and a heaping pile of determination and even a large helping of wits to help you through all the tough times, tasks, and enigmas ahead of you.

He loves music, the harder or more interesting the better. If he were in our day and age, he would be a very eclectic dragon when it comes to music. His favorites would include Nightwish and Rammstein, and probably odds and ends like Black Crows, The Bloodhound Gang and Bowling for Soup. But he's not in our day and age, so he listens what whatever music he can get in range of. I have to admit to you though, I got most of the inspiration for your adoring Sarkith when I was listening to Nightwish, they just had the right spark to them for me to create your music loving darling.

However with the artist comes a couple of little flaws. Sarkith gets a little depressed once in a while, but it's not the same kind of depression you or I get. Instead, his depression only lasts a day or two and then, like magic, it's gone. Usually upon hearing some song or poem that's cheerful and happy, or maybe romantic, what ever it is was meant to raise spirits. Also, he'll get those unattainable crushes on a passing green or gold every so often, something about this green or that gold just caught his eyes and he wants her because she's inspired him. Usually these little crushes are on golds, generally not greens. Because greens, you see, are attainable.

One other thing that Sarkith likes to do is nudge you in the directions he wants, he'd prefer to work as a team, not with him or you being dominant. In this way, he kind of defies the submissive/dominant status that most dragons and riders figure out rather early on. So instead of, »Farris! I want food NOW! I'm hungry!« you'll get something more like, »Farris, what should we do next? I have an idea, why don't we grab some food on our way to the Sands to take a look at the new eggs?«

Physically: You asked for a small dragon, you got a small dragon. In his description, we used words such as slip, slim and slender. I wanted to put as much emphasis on Sarkith's small size as I could without saying he's a midget and a runt about the size of a firelizard. He's actually bigger than firelizards, we promise. Just smaller than most blues. But a more endearing dragon has yet to show his or her face.

Because of his tail being so small and stumpy, he seems to wobble a lot, but he truly has some good balance even with the short and stumpy tail. When he flies, he'll want to do the brave thing and attempt to do aerial tricks, even though the Dragonhealer told you to try and keep him from doing such things because they're unsure of the way he'll fly with that tail of his.

Mating Flights: Sarkith is one for the flights, he likes to chase, even if he doesn't win. If it's a challenge for him, he's up and after the gleaming beauty in a matter of moments. Unlike most blues, he's more flirty than playful, and more charming than tricky. Sometimes it's almost like he can wrap a green in honey and she's stuck to him forever, and he enjoys it and enjoys having both deep and casual types of relationships. When it's all over, he'll shrug it off and go back to his old life, helping you write songs and then putting them to music. But of course, the unattainable will always obsess him.

Ebon Glitters of Space
Sarkith's mind is always dark in the background, but when your mind and his touch, you can see the purple, blue and white of the gas in space as well as the winking, happy gold of the stars and gorgeous silver of moons. When he speaks in his comforting baritone, it's normally accompanied by a soft sound of chimes, and even once in a while a soft, haunting flute drifting on a silent summer's night. When he's angry, you get shooting stars streaking through your mind and bright flashing lights, almost enough to give you a migrane. You always know when he's angry. When he's asleep is when you get the most peace of course. Its almost like he's always in your head, yet when he's sleeping his mind goes into a rather dark place, but instead of space, its just a pitch hole with soft bubbles of grey and silver smoke drifting around in your mind.

Mind Touches
Ebon Glitters of Space leaves you in the dark, of course. After a few seconds of complete black, the background starts to shift and suddenly purple, misty white and dark blue show up in the black background. After a few more seconds of waiting, stars start winking into existence, and then a single, lone planet. The scene fades from your mind as slowly as it began.

Ebon Glitters of Space offers you a soft feeling of cheer for your return before introducing you back to its scene. Black, then again with the purple, white and blue. The stars, the planet. This time the scene is set much faster, and when all is in place the show really starts. A comet streaks slowly past, shooting stars scattering in bright, bold, flashing explosions all around your mind. Again, the scene fades.

Ebon Glitters of Space sends a bolt of good will and happiness to you. You returned to finish this wonderous scene! The setting is instantly in place this time, The black, blue, purple and white. The blue and green planet, the comet. All is ready. The shooting starts are suddenly subdued so you can watch the comet streaking its way past you and straight towards the planet. The comet and the planet collide suddenly, and the shooting stars turn into brilliant blue and green fireworks. A laugh sounds, it sure fooled you. And abruptly as the explosion ends, the presence of the egg dissipates.

Farris! Congratulations! I was happy that we get to keep you in Igen and I just hope you adore your loving Sarkith.

Your egg, Black Sands Like Black Waters Egg, was based upon the Kara Kum Desert in Turkmenistan. The theme of the Clutch was Deserts of the World. However, when I was finished with this egg, I was /thrilled/ at how it looked and the way it struck me as a gold mine of inspiration, so I hope you are thrilled along with me that your Sarkith came out of this egg, even if it wasn't /The/ Egg you hoped for.

Sarkith's name comes from the African name Sarki. I chose it because it means Brave Chief, and I thought that your Sarkith was a brave and wise type. Also for the chief part he has the bravery, patience, and understanding to work well alongside you. Partners for life. Now, I have been pronouncing it Sar-kieth, but you can pronounce it Sar-kith or anything else you might like.

But, as always, what's here is merely a suggestion - feel free to use or ignore whichever portions you'd like, or change him so you're happy with him.

Congratulations again!
