Igen Weyr - Living Caverns
Second only to the Hatching Sands in size -- although its walls are not so nearly circular -- the living cavern is filled with numerous rectangular tables, almost too many to count. The Weyrleaders have the table farthest from the kitchen and hearths at one end of the cavern. The hearths are kept as low-burning as possible during the day when folk come inside to escape the heat outside. They burn brighter at night to keep away the deserts chill. No matter hte level of flame, there is always a stew pot that hangs for nibblers at a good temperature. Favored drinks, particularly iced klah and juice, are kept on ice and interspersed at various food tables scattered about, along with baskets of rolls and fruit. There are, of course, scheduled mealtimes, and at certain points of the day the available fare slides into the menu for the nearest meal, be it breakfast, lunch, dinner, or late-night snackings, but the staff has long since acknowledged that people will sit to talk and nibble here at all hours. In the cooler parts of the evening in particular, the cavern hosts games of chess, checkers, dragonpoker, and others. Several degrees are knocked off thanks to the Technician Craft's cooling system.

Th'ero tilts his head slightly when R'en begins to say something but changes his mind. He won't push the new Weyrleader either though there is a faint chuckle. "Seems how it's often the case. Come to visit or happen to be here for duty and…" Bam. You're now the Weyrleader! "It does take some adjusting." Which is Th'ero-speak for: it'll maybe get better. Motioning for Nyalle to step forwards, it's an open invitation for the Weyrwoman to have R'en lead her towards those tables. "Don't know if we get any of Igen's fruit in our trades." Th'ero admits, glancing again to Nyalle. That would be more of her expertise! He handles Fort's riders. "Strange how it seems our dragons strive for it more. Velokraeth is similar."

Nyalle moves ahead of Th'ero to follow after R'en. "We don't get any of Igen's items in trade, though perhaps that will change." Later, though. This is a visit of pleasure, not of business. "I'm certain you'll get used to it, R'en, I've faith in you."

"I just came for some supplies, and to meet their healers." R'en admits, though it shouldn't surprise Nyalle, he pops by Fort sometimes to visit the infirmary as well. He is near the entrance leading the pair from Fort towards the table in the back that has an assortment of fruit and drinks on it, that he was initially hoarding for himself - but there's cups and plates for others to take. "It'll take a lot of adjustment to get used to the weather here. It's very different than Monaco Bay. Sindrieth thinks it's just great though." He says lightly and shrugs his shoulders a little at the trade talk, "I don't know what we send out, but we should definitely talk about it if not. Thanks, Nyalle. I'll do my best."

Jing-jingle-jangle jingly-jangle jing: that's the sound of a quasi-resident trader with a serious love of jewelry sashaying her way into the living cavern. Lucrezia is deep in conversation with some brownrider or another - which is to say, the poor fellow is holding up well under the burden of words being flung at him. He's also the beast of burden for a rather large bag, at that; but, as they enter the cavern properly, the young woman holds out her hands for it and he relinquishes it without question. She flashes him a dazzling smile, hauls the bag to her shoulder, and makes her way toward the inner caverns. The brownrider all but vanishes, leaving her to do the deed on her own - and she might have finished it, too, if it weren't for her meddling ways! Or, at the least, a measure of curiosity about the congregation of Weyrleaders over yonder. Gawking? Not -precisely-, but there is a lifted hand and wiggle of fingers in their direction.

"You're Healer trained?" Th'ero asks in a polite enough tone and seems genuinely curious before he chuckles dryly. "Me, I was in Fort on the suggestion of a friend of mine. 'Go visit Fort' he said. Well…" He's been Weyrleader since! "It'll have its ups and downs. Just remember that Weyrleader or not, there's no shame in asking for advice." he murmurs, careful to keep his voice lowered. "You were saying that the days are hot and the nights cold? Suppose that's a desert thing?" As they approach the tables, Th'ero will watch as Nyalle is caught by an old friend and lead aside for a moment. "That'll be something we could discuss another time." Seeing as he'd need Nyalle with him to settle anything! Then there's a curious jingle-jangle jing sound coming from somewhere in the caverns and the Fortian WEyrleader is distracted in finding the source. Only to realize Lucrezia is waving and habit has him returning the gesture, along with a polite dip of his head.

"I'm a Journeyman, yes. Surgery and trauma." R'en admits, his specialty is something he's actually quite proud of and this whole dragon thing has really stolen his attention from where he figures it ought to be. He smirks as Th'ero tells him that he was just visiting when he went to Fort and shrugs his shoulders, "Dragons seem to do what they want and damned if I didn't try to stop him.. But, he wouldn't listen. He's far too big to be grabbing a leg to keep on the ground." He admits with a bit of humor, and nods, "A desert thing, and I might ask for advice. I'd never even thought I'd be in this position." He answers, and glances as Nyalle gets stolen away by an old friend and the sound of the jangles entering the living cavern draw his attention too. He lifts a hand to wave as well, before sliding into the seat he was in before with his things in front of him that he was looking at before he was distracted.

Well, now he's done it. In fact, they both have. The returned wave and added head dip just means Rezia needs to up the ante by a half bow and a brilliant smile. Whatever she was -going- to do is not forgotten - but it is delayed, if only for a little while. The trader adjusts the hang of the bag at her shoulder and angles herself toward the curious conglomeration with a lazy sway to her stride. Her voice is a sweetly lilting thing, but the accent is peculiar - if the lack of a proper knot didn't betray her as being something of an outsider, her dialect definitely will. "Hello there! I guess- Igen's Duties? Is that the right phrase?" Her lips purse thoughtfully until the thought itself passes. "Figured I ought to give -you- a proper greeting, Weyrleader," is canted toward R'en with a lopsided smile. "You're a tricky one to catch! Just like an oiled tunnelsnake." Her nose crinkles and then her attention tilts toward Th'ero. "And hello! What brings you to beautiful Igen? Is it the sand? … I'll bet it's the sand." The last bit is uttered in a conspiratorial whisper.

Th'ero seems rather impressed by R'en's field of Healercraft. "So you visit other Infirmaries often then?" Again, it's more casual questions for an equally casual conversation (or so he hopes). "Well said," he chuckles with a faint grimace of understanding as he takes a seat. "I learned long ago that when Velokraeth wants to chase a glowing hide? I best save my breath. Once they're determined, there's no turning back." He shakes his head and then glances sidelong to R'en. "Who does? Expect to be in this position, I mean… I'd be worried if a rider was too enthusiastic and yet I've never come across one who is." he admits. As Lucrezia approaches, Th'ero takes a moment to try and pinpoint her accent but fails and settles instead for giving her a curious look. No knot? Hmm. "Close enough," he muses and his smile, though faint, is welcoming. "And guess you could say it's the sand. Fort's not got much of it. Mud though. Plenty of that at the right season. Though this visit is purely pleasure and here to welcome a new Weyrleader."

"Often enough. I am fairly skilled at surgery, so I go to teach some apprentices at times when the hall requests it." R'en admits, having as much pride as anyone who's decent at their craft would have. "I guess they won't be requesting that so much anymore, though." He does sound slightly disappointed with that, but it doesn't linger too long before he scrunches his nose at the talk about glowing hides. "Sindreith has been on a real roll lately. I hope he'll settle down a bit." He can be hopeful, can't he? He gives Lucrezia a look over, and a slight shrug, "It's been a little crazy, getting all my things in order and moving. But, hello none the less." But, fun isn't to last as someone comes over to get his attention and drag him off. "Th'ero, please feel free to enjoy the hospitality. Thank Nyalle for thinking to come too. I have something to take care of, apparently."

"Oh! I noticed as much. Fort's the second Weyr I've ever visited, you know? It's a beautiful place - even with the mud, I'm sure!" Rezia lets the bag slide from her shoulder and land with a muffled *thump* on the floor. Her attention is trained keenly on Th'ero all the while, with a sidelong look to R'en when the Fortian explains why he's here. "If you didn't come for that," she adds after a beat, "then your better bet would be to come for the -drinks-. Oh, my -stars-. They're mighty good with drinks here, yeah?" It's all a fine aside to the main event, as it were - one which fizzles and ends with the trader's lower lip pouting out just a little. "See? Oiled tunnelsnake!" The light stamping of her foot is more playful than petulant; sheer silliness, really. She does call "Clear skies!" after R'en as he departs and it's the poor Weyrleader that's left to deal with the aftermath. "Oooh, so -difficult- to give things away sometimes, I -swear-." Her gaze tips back up to the Fortian and there goes her smile, tilting again - this time with a rueful edge. "Ah well. I don't suppose I could interest -you- in a leatherbound journal, eh?"

"Don't count yourself out so fast," Th'ero murmurs to R'en and dips his head again in polite farewell when the Igen Weyrleader is pulled away. He knows how that goes! Settling comfortably in his chair, he'll turn his attention back to Lucrezia. "You've visited Fort before too? That's… a considerable distance to travel," he says in a vaguely amused tone. A brow quirks, "Drinks? As in alcoholic or non? R'en had mentioned something about the fruit here. Though if you're speaking of alcoholic… does it rival Ista?" Chuckling, he then shakes his head for the foot stamping. "Life of a Weyrleader! It's a rare occasion when we get to sit longer than a few moments." If he had had an interest in what the girl had been carrying he kept that quietly to himself and eventually patience pays off! "So is that what you're lugging about then? Leatherbound journals?"

"Oh! Well. Ph'eles needed to talk to someone about something and I went with him. He's a rider here. Helped me find… well, a few things. And people." Rezia's mouth teases to one side. "-Mostly- people." As for the bag, she glances at it, then back up at Th'ero with a giggle. "Not all of it, no. I have something nice for our new Weyrleader here - it's only right, you know? It's funny that you Weyrfolk don't really… celebrate things like that." It's a troubling thought to the trader and she brushes it off. "No, most of what I have are sewing bits. It's just what I trade in - I'm no good at -making- things, but there are plenty of people who are and do and it's wonderful." She starts to heft it up, though, with something - somewhere - catching her eye. "I've never been to Ista, so I can't say - but the boozy stuff here is a kick in the pants compared to some of the most backwater Holds we traded to. And that stuff could make a man -blind-." True story. "-Anyway-. Work, you know? Of course you do, how silly of me! That big knot must be -heavy-. Ah- here, it's on me - just call me Lucrezia, yeah? It's a little thing, but- well, maybe you'll make some good use of it?" She fishes out a small leatherbound journal and offers it - if it's not taken, she'll take it back, but it's a fine thing of red leather with laced binding and thick, blank pages inside. And the girl? She's quickly making her way onward, toward the inner caverns.

Th'ero's brows lift and it's obvious he wants to inquire further about these people and how she lucked out on finding a rider's help on top of it all but he holds his tongue. "Strange, isn't it? Are you going to start the trend then? Perhaps the weyrfolk here are waiting to see the type of man R'en is… Not that I am speaking any ill of him. He seems capable and my Weyrwoman, Nyalle, speaks highly of him as a rider." he goes on to say and smiles faintly. "Though given the man I was once when I first took Weyrleader? I'd have gone into hiding if they'd thrown me a party…" He DID, however, get into a snowball fight. Does that count? "Ahh, I see. I'll mind the alcohol here then. So a trader, are you? Well met, Lucrezia. I'm Th'ero, Fort's Weyrleader and Velokraeth's rider. Are — you sure?" He does take the leather-bound journal though with surprise. Who's to refuse free stuff? Not him, though he's likely to be wondering it's not some sort of trap. Especially when the girl takes off so quickly! "Ah, well… thank you!" Blinking, he shakes his head, tucking the journal safely away as he gets to his feet. He's going to go hunt Nyalle down and see how she's faring with her friend and maybe if R'en is still occupied, they will explore a little of the Weyr before returning home.
