Igen Weyr - Canyon Road/Igen Weyr - South Bowl
Winding here and there into a maze of dizzying twist and turns, the canyon floor rises almost imperceptably at a steady incline from the desert spreading west from the Igen River Valley. Natural rainbows cover the canyon walls, formed by the horizontal layers of colorful limestones, sandstones, and mudstones, split occasionally by flashes of darker igneous rock and obsidian. During the dangerous high sun of midday, this combination can ruthlessly ravage the eyes, just as bits of sand may eat away at the skin in a gust of dry wind. These same grains of dust have worn away at the clifface, grinding curves, ridges, even holes into it, sculpting odd formations out of the stone. The same haphazard architecture is mirrored in the lopsided, sloping sides of Igen Weyr, rising over the canyon like a silent sentinel.

The orange hued sandstone layers comprising the bowl walls curve gently, but ever presently in your view. Fine sand shifts underfoot, a slightly paler version of what is found upon the walls. It gives way along the eastern edge to a section of contrasting green grass where a series of cleverly engineered pipes provide water to the fenced off area of the feeding grounds, and keeps the shimmer of the shallow lake beyond from dissapearing during the dryest periods of the turn. A distinctly squared entrance farther south is the tunnel leading out to the lands beyond. Traders and tithes arrive here at regular intervals and it is not uncommon for part of the bowl to be set up with a series of tents and wagons as wares are displayed and sold. To the west, the bowl wall has been eroded by the desert winds into strange shapes. At their base are found the weyrling barracks and training fields.

Eranzath> Along this well-trod road is where Daija plods, satchel thrown over the one exposed shoulder and her hair braided into a series of clever knots atop her head. She's wearing a blue scarf around her neck, which soaks up the moisture gathering as she prespires from the midday sun. Her path almost certainly brings her within the vicinity of the lumbering bronze dragon, upon whom she settles a wary eye. But being that she can't talk to dragons, she'll stay silent whilst looking for the rider, hand shading her eyes.

Eranzath> Eranzath comes to a complete stop, watching the road walker for a long moment with a great deal of curiousity before he just finally settles across the entire road. Then, with great deliberation he folds himself down, resting his head down on the ground and continues to watch the girl, one great eye whirling lazily in a placid shade of blue.

Eranzath> The wariness with which the girl approaches the draconic roadblock is palpable. "Scuse me, but I'm needin to get through," Daija says boldly, a thumb tucking under the strap of her bag as she sidles up to the bronze. "I've got infirmary duty. Can't say they'd be pleased I got there late. Ya kin?" She gives him a long stare and sighs, side-stepping to the left and then to the right. "Come /on/. Can't ya find somewhere else to take a nap?"

Eranzath> Eranzath merely ruffles his wings slightly, proof that he's noticed the girl standing in the road but he doesn't move beyond that for several long moments. Then there is a slight twitch to his tail as his eyes continue to whirl placidly before he continues to rest completely across the road. A brief lift of his head as he spots a rider, even one he is moderately familiar with.

[DTU/Project] Eranzath projects to Feyruth . o O ( The one in front of me is interesting. Tell your rider? )

Eranzath> Tanned arms lift and fall, frustration building as the girl paces back and forth in front of the dragon. "How is this happenin?" Daija fumes, crossing her arms and tapping her food in open agitation with her situation. "Plenty of ledges to sleep on. Plenty of other places to /go/." She doesn't have the vantage to spot a rider, or the motive at the moment; her eyes are for the dragon, as if willing it to move with some internal monologue.

Janja seems extremely puzzled as she hurries across the bowl floor. "Feyruth is going on and on about Eranzath finding someone." She calls out to Al'dru. "Do you have any idea what's going on? She drove me right out of the weyr! Me! Still being sick from breakfast and everything." Now her voice begins to sound a little huffy. "Even with the special teas too."

Eranzath> Feyruth has arrived.

Al'dru shakes his head. "I really don't. All I know is that he's further along the road than I am, and was picking a spot to nap in the sun." He pauses. "Uh oh. What sort of sickness are you having? Do I want to get close to you? You're not contagious are you?"

Eranzath> Feyruth sails in from above to see what's what. She lands lightly, for a large gold, near Eranzath and turns to look at the bronze just as if she were speaking.

Eranzath> Eranzath does lift his head now to welcome Feyruth, and the addition of another helper to his roadblocking abilities. With a soft croon he invites Feyruth to join him in his sunbathing right across the road to the weyr and also manages to indicate the infirmary helper that he's smugly keeping out of the weyr.

[DTU/Project] Feyruth projects to Eranzath . o O ( I told her and she's gone to yell at yours. I don't know that will help. She's not always easy to control. )

[DTU/Project] Eranzath projects to Feyruth . o O ( Well, I think we should have this one. It feels interesting. And besides it was in the way of my nap. )

Eranzath> Daija watches the gold's arrival with ever-increasing anger. "/Got/ to be kiddin!" She frowns and crosses her arms tighter. "I need to get to the infirmary. Patients needin help. Healers needin help. Am I 'pose to stay out here all day with you two?" she grumbles, shooting the bronze, at least, a glare that supposed to encompass the full range of her irritation.

There's a half moment of thought, before Janja answers hesitantly, "Well…no. I don't see how you could. But I am sick of throwing up all the time. The healers say that's normal for some so not to worry." She beams brightly. "And they gave me special teas that do help. I'm going to have Ryn get me a supply of ice so I can drink them cold." She shudders. "I'm still not used to this heat. Oh! Look, Feyruth is going to see too!"

Eranzath> Feyruth seems to find the sunbathing spot just as lovely as she settles in next to the bronze. While not exactly cuddled, somehow all that golden hide takes up the very last inches of room on the road into the weyr. She remains alert however, just watching both Daija and Eranzath. There's almost a feeling of entertainment about the gold. It's like the others are putting on a show just for her very own amusement. As the healer gets angrier, Feyruth croons happily.

Al'dru nods slightly and almost hesitantly offers an opinion before he snaps his mouth shut at the last moment, thinking better of it. "Shall we see what is occupying the pair of them, down there in the desert? It's not like those two ever agree on anything really, so this is somewhat odd." He offers an arm to the weyrwoman, to lead the way further down the canyon road."

Janja takes the offered arm and cheerfully follows along. Life is a game for this one.

Igen Weyr - Canyon Road

Al'dru arrives, with Janja on his arm looking mostly amused and curious about what could be keeping Eranzath entertained so far out of the weyr. He's not moving all that fast however, speaking with the weyrwoman. "So, how long have you been sick? And I'm sure 'Ryn will get you some ice. He's a good mate that way."

Daija is presently staring at the two dragons, probably trying to decide how best to get them to move. "Look, it'sa herdbeast!" she shouts, pointing at some distant point miles out. Does it work? Probably not. But the sound of other voices, voices belonging to ''people'' and hopefully not ''dragons'', has the infirmary aide twisitng this way and that, looking for the source.

Janja seems to be happily hanging on Al'dru's arm and every word. "Oh he definitely is! He's a darling. Treats me just as he should, like the queen dragon!" She beams at the thought before adding. "I've been sick a month or so. They said it could be a few more yet to go." Without any farther explanation of that, she turns to the gold. "Feyruth love, do be a dear and move your tail? I can't see at all." The gold lifts her tail just enough for Al'dru and Janja to slip out but is quick to move it should Daija make any attempt to slip /in/. "Why are you sleeping out here, anyways?"

Al'dru arrives on the other side of the pair of nested dragons giving them an amused look before he glances at the weyrwoman. "Erry tells me the sun is better out here. And that there is a squawky human that might be good for the eggs that is disturbing his sleep. He called Feyruth because I was too lazy to walk out here. Hey. You're not supposed to talk about your rider like that, you great lump." Al's looking a little flushed underneath his dark skin tone, as he realizes all that he's repeated, and simply for the moment states. "Err” and trails off.

Once the pair come into view, and it's quite unexpectedly Al'dru and Janja, Daija makes a quick nod to both and stammers through a greeting. "Hey.. hi.. sir, ma'am." She glances from the riders to their dragons. "I'm.. I'm late, to infirmary duty," she points out, clearly missing the part about being 'good for the eggs', because she's looking at the two riders beseechingly; girl's gotta work to make her marks.

Janja starts at Daija's comment even as Al's seems to have little to surprise her. "Oh dear, Al. You must ask her quickly if she's late! Who will make my teas with her stuck out here?" The goldrider's face firms into a rather scary angry look. "I will not be sick for months on end just because you're slow." She seems about to speak again when the gold turns her head and ever so gently nudges her rider. Jan's face softens and she absentmindedly scratches the gold's eyeridge. "Yes love. Thank you for doing such a good job Eranzath. We hope you'll do as well for Fey." She looks at the gold uncertain. "Like that?"

Al'dru looks just the slightest bit lost, although he's more than willing to jump when Janja gets that look. "Err, we'll make sure that any issues are smoothed over with the staff at the infirmary. I'm sure C'vryn can take care of it, and if not. As you'll be a candidate, all will be well anyway. Just so long as you'll continue to make the tea for Jan here, if you're the one doing it. Everything will be good. So, say yes and everything's fine."

Lost is /the/ perfect description of how Daija's face looks while the two dragonriders are talking to each other and their dragons. She blinks a few times, staring at Al'dru. "Uh.." It takes a short space for it to /click/ and then her eyes get wide, her arms dropping to her sides. "I'm.. you want.. /me/?" She turns, now, to stare at the bronze, and reiterates: "ME?" But the nod that follows is a definite yes. "Yessir, yes, I am."

With a happy clap of her hands, Jan cheers. "Ooo! Well done! Now she can make my tea and touch the eggs." Though she adds after looking more closely at the young healer. "You know. I don't think she's the one that does make the tea." The goldrider shrugs, unconcerned about the mix-up. "Fey, love, you might want to let her in now?"

Al'dru is not concerned if Janja isn't. "Well, another candidate for the eggs is always good. Nice job, Erry." He pauses. "And yes, you do have to move to let her in now." Which the bronze does with ill grace, turning sideways along the roadbed. "Well, lets get you settled in at the barracks, then if you have time you can go back to the infirmary for the day. And don't worry about the marks. All the candidates are paid a stipend."
